Terence Crawford gives encouraging advice to rival

AFTER a 16-year career, Terence Crawford is well placed to pass on advice to any of his peers.

The former undisputed welterweight king and four-weight world champion has been linked to a clash against Jaron Ennis, who racked up his latest win last night. ‘Boots’ retained his IBF welterweight title in a needless rematch against Karen Chukhadzhian which Ennis won wide on the scorecards.

Ennis is still to register a notable victory which would elevate his résumé and perhaps make Crawford consider facing him in the future.

Speaking on social media earlier today Crawford had this to say Ennis after the action in Philadelphia.

“I did[n’t] see the fight, but I heard about it.

“Stay focused and keep working on your craft. Every nights not going to be the same. Never get to comfortable in this game, if you trying to get to the mecca of the sport. Stay on your mission because all it takes is 1 slip up.”

Crawford avoided a slip-up of his own in August against Israil Madrimov. Their main event at the BMO Stadium in Los Angeles resulted in a points win for ‘Bud’, giving him the WBA super-welterweight title in the process. However, there was a genuine argument to be made for Madrimov winning.

It remains to be seen what Crawford does next, and his advice to Ennis could be seen as words used to antagonise the 27-year-old. Ennis’ next move could be to join Crawford at 154 lbs, with negotiations ongoing for a blockbuster against unbeaten WBC interim belt holder Vergil Ortiz Jr. Should Ennis emerge victorious, then a ‘Boots ‘-‘Bud’ bout becomes a serious possibility.
