Terence Crawford embraces underdog mentality ahead of potential Canelo showdown

TERENCE Crawford looks to prove his doubters wrong as a monumental clash with super-middleweight king Canelo Alvarez remains in his sights.

The 37-year-old became a four-division world champion after dethroning explosive Uzbek Israil Madrimov, claiming the WBA super-welterweight title with a unanimous decision victory in August.

His 41st professional win arrived just over a year after his undisputed showdown with Errol Spence Jr, who ultimately succumbed to a hellacious ninth-round onslaught from Crawford.

Even before his victory over Madrimov, though, ‘Bud’ has been clamouring for a shot at Alvarez, looking to further enhance his already decorated legacy.

Since losing to Dmitry Bivol, Alvarez has amassed five comprehensive wins on points, with his last dominant performance arriving against Edgar Berlanga in September.

IBF super-middleweight titlist William Scull, meanwhile, revealed just last week that the Mexican has now made an approach for an undisputed battle at 168 lbs.

In any case, Crawford is seemingly still hopeful that a lucrative dustup with Alvarez can materialise.

“[I’ve] been doubted my whole career and some still doubting me now,” he wrote on X yesterday. “I love it!!!”

For the most part, it seems, the American has been the one actively trying to make the fight happen, claiming that he will retire from the sport unless he faces the pound-for-pound star.

Canelo, on the other hand, has expressed little interest in taking on Crawford while also rejecting multiple approaches from boxing power broker Turki Alalshikh.

And yet, it appears that their possible dustup is unlikely to take place unless it is staged on a Riyadh Season card.
