AUSTRALIAN heavyweight prospect Teremoana Jr produced a destructive first-round knockout in New York’s Madison Square Garden Theater last night. Opponent Aleem Whitfield was caught with a double left hook and slumped in the corner as his giant foe danced to victory.
Referee David Fields waved it off immediately at 2-28 of the opener as the ‘Hammer’ turned nail, being thumped into the canvas. Teremoana improved his record to 8-0, all eight finishes via knockout, as the search for a meaningful opponent continues.
The 27-year-old former Olympian spent the first couple of minutes stalking the smaller man around the ring, prodding out his jab, looking for openings for the right hand. In the end, it was a cuffing left hook that did the damage. The ending was swift and brutal.
“I want to take over the heavyweight division, one step at a time,” said Teremoana after the bout.
In the DAZN broadcast opener, Zaquin Moses (now 4-0) used his height and reach advantages, mixed with southpaw spite to stop Carl Rogers at 1-51 of round four. Colorado’s Rogers was floored shortly before a flurry invited the ref in to end it.
