On Saturday, Floyd Schofield became boxing’s latest world champion as he overcame Lucas Bahdi to get his hands on the WBA lightweight throne, and pound-for-pound superstar Shakur Stevenson has offered his thoughts on the ability of ‘Kid Austin’.
Both men hit the deck as Schofield and Bahdi finally went toe-to-toe – having their careers put on ice whilst waiting for their vacant world title shot. Bahdi fell first, being floored in round three of the contest, but the hard-hitting Canadian returned the favour and had Schofield down in round 11.
Despite a competitive affair, Schofield claimed a deserved unanimous decision win to announce himself as a serious player in the 135lb scene and possibly tee up major unifications against fellow champions, William Zepeda (WBC) and Abdullah Mason (WBO).
Although, after witnessing the display, Stevenson gave a damning assessment of what was an entertaining scrap, labelling Schofield as a ‘C-level fighter’ and Bahdi as an ‘F-level fighter’, on his X account.
A C lever fighter beat a F level fighter!!

Schofield and Stevenson were set to meet themselves back in February 2025, only for the bout to fall through on fight week after ‘Kid Austin’ was forced to withdraw from the contest after being hospitalised.
Schofield may well get the chance to improve the rating that Stevenson has given him if WBA ‘champion-in-recess’ Gervonta Davis opts for an immediate title challenge upon his return to the sport, with the ‘Tank’ able to become the mandatory challenger for the belt if he wishes.
If not, it seems as though former super-lightweight world champion and current WBA #3 Jose ‘El Rayo’ Valenzuela could be next in store for ‘Kid Austin’ – if Zuffa Boxing permit the Mexican southpaw to compete for the belt and face an opponent outside of their rapidly-growing roster.
