ACCORDING to TGB Promotions boss Tom Brown, newly-crowned WBC world featherweight champion Stephen Fulton is looking to become a three-division titlist.
The 30-year-old claimed his green and gold strap against Brandon Figueroa in February, producing a polished performance to come away from their rematch with a unanimous decision victory.
Before that, Fulton, 23-1 (8 KOs), suffered his first professional defeat in 2023, back when super-bantamweight king Naoya Inoue halted the slick American with a ruthless eighth-round finish.
Up to that point, the then unified champion at 122lbs had secured impressive wins over Figueroa, Angelo Leo and Daniel Roman in what became a solid title reign.
But now, after regaining his position at the top table, it seems that ‘Cool Boy Steph’ is set to take on WBC world super-featherweight champion O’Shaquie Foster.
A comprehensive points victory over Rey Vargas saw Foster secure his belt in 2023, before making two successful defences against Eduardo Hernandez and Abraham Nova.
Following a split decision defeat to Robson Conceicao last year, the crafty technician then exacted his revenge and, in doing so, reclaimed his WBC title.
Instead of entering a unification with one of his fellow champions at 130lbs, though, it would appear that the 31-year-old’s clash with Fulton is all but confirmed.
Derrick ‘Bozy’ Ennis, the trainer of Fulton, told Boxing News’ Andi Purewal earlier this week that the intriguing matchup is close to being finalised.
Then, in another interview with Boxing News, veteran promoter Brown, who represents Fulton, named Foster as the Philadelphian’s next opponent.
“That’s the plan right now; it looks like that’ll happen,” Brown told Purewal.
“There’s us, again, working with Top Rank [Foster’s promoter], putting another very good fight together.”
