THAILAND’S star WBC super-flyweight champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, one of the best fighters pound-for-pound in the world today, has signed a promotional agreement with Matchroom Boxing.
He will have a rematch with Juan Francisco Estrada in April.
That could lead him towards a unification contest with Britain’s Kal Yafai, who has held the WBA super-flyweight title since 2016.
Donnie Nietes holds the WBO belt in their division and Matchroom might try to match him with Yafai before putting the winner in with Rungvisai, although Nietes might have a mandatory obligation first. The WBO have instructed Nietes to enter negotiations to meet a fight with challenger Aston Palicte before that fight has to go to purse bids.
Promoter Eddie Hearn tells Boxing News that Rungvisai “is going to fight Estrada. That’s a mandatory fight, the last one was fight of the year. We’ll do that in April and if he wins that we’ll put him in with Yafai in a unification.
He added, “In the meantime I might get Yafai to fight Nietes the WBO champion to see if he can pick up two belts going into that.”
