Shane Mosley chooses between prime Mayweather and Crawford: “He’s better”

Hall of Famer Shane Mosley, who suffered a points defeat to Floyd Mayweather in 2010, has predicted a fantasy showdown between his former foe and Terence Crawford.

The two pound-for-pound legends retired with unbeaten records, having become five-division world champions, and are widely considered to be the greatest of their respective eras.

Mayweather called time on his glittering career in 2017, while Crawford exited the sport after jumping up two weight classes to dethrone super-middleweight king Canelo Alvarez in September.

But despite cementing himself as the top dog at 168lbs, many believe that Crawford’s best performances came at 147lbs, where he also became an undisputed champion.

All of his eight welterweight victories, in fact, ended inside the distance, with the most notable of which arriving against Errol Spence Jr in 2023.

Back then, many had anticipated a highly competitive affair to unfold, yet ‘Bud’ ultimately shocked the world by dishing out a punishing nine-round beatdown.

As for Mayweather, a total of 12 outings at 147lbs saw him claim monumental victories over the likes of Mosley, Manny Pacquiao, Zab Judah and Ricky Hatton.

Given that the American claimed his first world title at super-featherweight, though, Mosley believes Crawford would boast a significant size advantage and superior all-round skillset.

Speaking with Fight Hub TV, ‘Sugar’ insisted that Crawford is the ‘better’ all-round fighter and would be able to control the distance, even against a masterful counterpuncher like Mayweather.

“I would say Crawford is a better all-round fighter.

“Mayweather is really good too, though. He’s very talented. It would’ve been a tough fight, but I think Crawford would have the edge over Mayweather because of his long arms, and because he’s bigger.

“He would’ve kept him at bay. It would be hard for Mayweather to counter, maybe.”

When considering Crawford’s three-inch reach advantage, and naturally bigger frame, it is perhaps unsurprising that Mosley has gone with this prediction.
