Shakur Stevenson reckons Tank fight is biggest in boxing

SHAKUR Stevenson says that a fight between himself and Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis is destined to happen and that his side of the negotiating table has told Tank’s people to fire over an offer. While no response has yet been received, this has not impacted Shakur’s confidence that the fight will get made.

“Like I said, that fight is going to happen. I’m not going to act like the fight is not going to happen,” he told Boxing News.

“Me and him is the best, we’re the best fighters coming up. Best fighters at the 135-pound division. There’s no way of the fight not happening. I know fans want to scream and say all of these things. This guy’s ducking, this guy. They want to find a person to say that somebody’s ducking, but I ain’t scared to fight him, he’s not scared to fight me and it’s going to be a hell of a fight when the fight happens.”

A November 23 date has been rumoured, but for a fight of this magnitude, would the turnaround be too swift? Stevenson doesn’t seem to think so.

“If terms could be agreed and everything makes sense for him and me business-wise, the fight definitely could happen,” he added before giving a favourable assessment of Gervonta’s dealings with Frank Martin in June.

“I wouldn’t tell you all the holes because that would be giving him my game plan,” he grinned. “I thought he looked real good against Frank Martin. I thought that it just was too high of a level for Frank Martin. I thought that Tank raised the level up and Frank wasn’t able to compete at that level.”

Of all the potential megafights that could be made across boxing, Shakur Stevenson believes that a clash with Gervonta Davis is the biggest of the lot.

“That’s the biggest fight in all of boxing. I don’t think that it’s a fight bigger than me and Tank. Maybe Bud and Canelo is right there, but truthfully, we’re speaking skill for skill. The fight that fight fans really want to see, people that appreciate boxing, people that love the sport of boxing, that’s the fight. I don’t see no fight being bigger than that.”
