AN intriguing European title dustup between British light-heavyweight operators Shakan Pitters and Bradley Rea has just been announced.

The pair will collide on the undercard of amateur standout Kieran Molloy, who takes on Kaisee Benjamin at the Pearse Stadium in Galway, Ireland, on June 28.

Benjamin should, if nothing else, introduce the highly-touted Irishman to his first acid test as a professional, representing a stern but calculated piece of match-making at welterweight.

A more compelling matchup, however, will see Pitters, 20-2 (7 KOs), finally earn his shot at the EBU title after having the opportunity snatched from his grasp on several occasions.

The 35-year-old was supposed to square off against Daniel Dos Santos earlier this year, but a failed brain scan ultimately forced the Frenchman to withdraw from their contest.

Pitters then returned the favour after falling ill ahead of their rescheduled showdown last month, presenting Rea, 20-1 (10 KOs), with a golden opportunity to step in on short notice.

But in the end, Dos Santos refused to face โ€˜The Stingโ€™, leaving him with no opponent on the day of their cancelled fight.

Yet now, with Dos Santos stripped of his blue and gold strap, both Rea and Pitters will have the chance to claim his vacant belt.

Elsewhere on the GBM Sports card, Lerrone Richards will return to action against Ireland’s Joe Ward in what is surely a must-win fight for the light-heavyweight technician.

While an opponent has yet to emerge, Irishman Sean McComb hopes to shine in his first fight back since a highly contentious defeat to Arnold Barboza Jr. last year.
