WITH a shot at Newark’s Chad Sugden for the vacant Midlands Area light-heavyweight title pencilled in for Harvey Hadden Sports Village in July, Nottingham’s Polish-born Sebastian Slusarczyk banked six mostly one-sided rounds at Bingham Leisure Centre. Latvia’s Edgars Sniedze was dropped once in each of the opening two rounds prior to losing 60-53 from the evening’s referee Shaun Messer.Sniedze finished with a badly bloodied nose.
Old foes, now pals, Nathan Kirk of Stapleford and Hereford’s Dean Evans put their friendship aside for the duration of a four. At the culmination, Nathan, who began well but then saw Dean rally in the third, gained revenge for a 2016 defeat by virtue of a 40-37 win.
Stepping up to six rounds in only his second paid contest, Newark welter Regis Sugden stayed relaxed, mixed things up nicely and upped the ante a little with every passing round to secure a trouble-free shut-out win over Brierley Hill’s MJ Hall.
Referee Messer tallied 40-37 in the bout that saw Derby’s Sajid Abid maintain his 100 per cent professional record by besting Michael Williams of Wigston, Leicester. Having lost the opener by a distance, Williams rallied sufficiently to take a share of the second before the Derby puncher stepped it up a notch in a second half that saw Williams fearing damage to his nose after heads bashed heavily.
Three remaining contests all returned 40-36 wins for the home Nottingham corner. Bestwood’s Delmar Thomas got the ball rolling by calling the shots against a late sub in Worcester’s Michael Mooney; Bilborough’s Paul Thompson did likewise for the most part against Sheffield’s Qasim Hussain, who for the second week in succession turned in a workmanlike performance; and Clifton’s Ryan Amos, in just his third outing, completed the hat-trick by outdoing game Bradford debutant Saif Zahoor.
