Sam Noakes reckons Abdullah Mason clash will bring out their best

BRITISH lightweight Sam Noakes believes his upcoming WBO world lightweight title fight with Abdullah Masonwill showcase the very best of both fighters.

The unbeaten 28-year-old challenges the American star on November 11 in Saudi Arabia, part of another stacked card in what has become the sport’s new global hotspot.

“I’m excited to see the type of fighter I am on the night, because you’re obviously going to see the best of me and he’s going to bring out the best of me, and no doubt the same way in return,” Noakes told Boxing Newsin a recent interview.

Noakes has built his reputation on heavy hands, with 15 of his 17 wins (no losses) coming inside the distance, and he’s confident of extending that record when he steps into the ring for his first world title shot.

Mason (19-0, 17 KOs) has also shown grit under fire. Last November, the 20-year-old was dropped twice in the opening round by Yohan Vasquez, 26-6 (21 KOs), before storming back to score a second-round stoppage win, the only time he’s ever been floored.

“He’s come through every test with flying colours,” said Noakes. “From my perspective, he’s not been in there with anyone as strong or as relentless as me.

“But I’ve not been in with anyone as quick and fresh as him either, so it’s a good fight.”

Victory would crown Noakes as world champion for the first time and unlock lucrative opportunities against the division’s elite.

“I know it’s going to be life-changing but that’s what will make me dig deep,” he added.

“Get this fight won and it’s the start of a whole new ball game, big money, life-changing money, and that’s what’s getting me through it, to be honest.”
