SAM MAXWELL has turned professional. The former GB squad member has signed with MGM Marbella and will make his pro debut in Liverpool on October 7.

Salisbury’s Maxwell is a highly experienced amateur. He won the ABA and GB championships domestically as well as securing a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games. In a 2012 Olympic qualification tournament the Liverpudlian beat the highly regarded Russian Albert Selimov.

He’s also served a professional apprenticeship in the World Series of Boxing, the hybrid league in which Maxwell has boxed against the very best opposition in the world. He also endured two five-round bouts with none other than Vasyl Lomachenko, the two-time Olympic gold medallist and now professional world champion.
