WBC world flyweight champion Roman Gonzalez will defend his title on the undercard of Gennady Golovkin-David Lemieux at Madison Square Garden, New York on October 17.
An opponent has not been announced for the unbeaten ‘Chocolatito’, widely regarded as one of the best fighters on the planet pound-for-pound.
WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman confirmed the news and claimed that former two-weight world champions Giovanni Segura and Brian Viloria are in contention.
“We are very happy for ‘Chocolatito’ as he’s going to be part of this card,” he told ESPN.
“Golovkin and ‘Chocolatito’ have created a lot of interest and both of them are on for October 17th.
“Giovanni Segura and Brian Viloria are the main possibilities, and both of them are acceptable for the WBC.”
