THE great Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez is not finished with boxing quite yet.

After a glittering career the diminutive dynamo has not fought since losing to Juan Francisco Estrada by majority decision in December. Their trilogy is just three examples of the thrilling spectacles that Gonzalez has helped bring to the sport during his 18 years as a professional.

The Nicaraguan celebrated his 36th birthday earlier this month and is looking to get in amongst it at super-flyweight once again.

Gonzalez’s attorney and advisor Carlos Blandon gave Dan Rafael’s Fight Freaks Unite an update on his client.

“Roman is looking to make a comeback and a pull off a couple fights before thinking of retirement just yet.

“He sees his (super-flyweight) division is very interesting and would like a shot at a title once again. We still don’t have a date, but everything indicates he will most likely fight this year. His is eager to get back in the ring.”

A winner of belts in four divisions from minimumweight to super-fly Gonzalez has spent the last seven years campaigning in the 115lbs division. In that time, he has fought Carlos Cuadras, Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (twice), Kal Yafai, Juan Francisco Estrada (twice) and Julio Cesar Martinez. Gonzalez looked back to his brilliant best against Yafai and Martinez adding to his 51 wins from 55 starts.

The super-flyweight division will get another marquee match-up later this year when Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez and Sunny Edwards collide in a highly anticipated unification. Few would bet against Gonzalez getting a shot at the winner.
