Rolando Romero hopes for Pacquiao victory against Barrios

ROLANDO Romero has revealed who he would like to face next.

The 29-year-old, nicknamed “Rolly”, currently holds the WBA welterweight world title and has been linked with a host of names for his next fight.

Despite having defeated Ryan Garcia last time out, a rematch between the two has been in the rumour mill since their fight on May 2. Romero has other ideas, however, and named a multi-weight all-time great as his preferred choice.

In an interview with Boxing News at the IBA PRO 7 event in Turkey, Romero, 17-2 (13 KOs), was asked if he was moving on from a possible second fight against Garcia.

“There’s a much bigger fight on the horizon,” he said.

“[If] Manny Pacquiao wins that belt you think I’m not going to go for it – to get another belt against a Hall of Fame legend? Think about it like that.”

Pacquiao, 46, returns to the ring on July 19 when he challenges Mario Barrios for the WBC welterweight title. It will be the Filipino’s first fight since losing in his first defence of the WBA super-welterweight title to Yordenis Ugas four years ago.

“Let’s see if he’s victorious,” Romero said.

“A long layoff, Barrios is tough but regardless there’s a lot of good fights out there for me in that welterweight division.”

Looking at other potential options Romero named another potential rematch, against ‘Tank’ Davis, as one possibility

“Me and Ryan, me and Pacquiao, me and Barrios, me and ‘Tank’… I want to get my get back [against Davis] and see if ‘Tank’ wants to be a four-division world champion. There’s Teo [Lopez]. There’s a lot of interesting fights.”
