AFTER some recent revelations from promoter Eddie Hearn, a new front-runner has emerged for the location of a proposed rematch between Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko.

Cardiff, more specifically the Principality Stadium, looked a likely option and was the betting favourite with punters, given that it was in the UK. Hearn then spoke about the possibility of the fight taking place in Nigeria.

However, Las Vegas – the fight capital of the world – is now the betting favourite to stage the mammoth rematch, with a flood of bets reducing the price from 7/4 to 4/6.

“With promoter Eddie Hearn revealing Las Vegas as the current front-runner to stage the AJ-Klitschko rematch, a flurry of bets has seen the fight capital of the world backed into 4/6 to host the bout,” Betway’s Alan Alger said.

“Las Vegas had been priced at 7/4 previously, but British fight fans now look set for another trip across the Atlantic. Meanwhile, Cardiff has drifted from favourite at 6/4 to 5’s, while Nigeria remains a viable option at 7/2.”

The benefit of Cardiff was the similarities it holds to Wembley Stadium, where the first fight was held back in April.

“Financially there’s much better offers than Cardiff but we know the UK is solid, we’ve prepared here before, it’s the same time zone, so we don’t really want to rock the boat,” Hearn previously told Boxing News.

If the fight were to take place in Las Vegas, the T-Mobile Arena looks a likely option given its bigger capacity in comparison to the MGM Grand.

That would also see Joshua fight outside of the UK for the first time time as a professional, though he did box there once as an amateur.

Of course, Klitschko is still yet to make a decision on whether or not he will take a rematch with Joshua, though Anthony’s team are moving forward under the impression that the future Hall of Famer will bid for a return.
