RUMOURS that British promoter Scott Murray had resigned from Kazakhstan’s Nomad Promotions were confirmed by him today.

Murray says he stepped down as a partner and promoter last month ahead of the scheduled show in Kazakhstan on Saturday, April 5, and is now focused on forming a new UK-based company.

Murray was instrumental in bringing WBO and IBF middleweight champion Zhanibek Alimkhanuly back home to headline the show in Astana on Saturday, April 5.

Murray teamed up with partners in Kazakhstan, the UK and the United States to set up Nomad Promotions, but said: “The Astana show is still going ahead, but it was taking up too much of my time and money, as well as numerous other issues.”

He had travelled to Kazakhstan last year to help put together the show and held meetings with Government and boxing officials. Murray has instead decided to invest his time in shows in the UK.

His Excelsior Sporting Club shows have proved popular. He has worked with Jon Pegg on staging shows around the Midlands and is now looking to put together a new promotions company and a Michelin-starred celebrity chef Dinner Show for TV.

Murray revealed he has spoken to other promoters around the country with a view to putting on bigger shows closer to home.
