UNBEATEN boxer Abu Yusupov was on the receiving end of a horrific knife attack last Tuesday, suffering multiple injuries that ultimately led to his passing.
According to German media outlet Tagesspiegel – as reported by The Sun – the 39-year-old was stabbed in the neck following an altercation at Gesundbrunnen train station.
And while details surrounding the tragic incident in Berlin, Germany, remain unclear, authorities are reportedly seeking further information regarding the individuals involved.
In any case, though, Yusupov’s untimely passing has been mourned by several members of the boxing fraternity, including WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman, over the past few days.
“The entire WBC family, and its President Mauricio Sulaimán, send our deepest condolences to Abu’s family and friends during this difficult time,” it says in an official statement released by the sanctioning body.
Along with an embryonic career through the ropes, Yusupov has left behind his wife and three daughters, adding only to the devastation attached to his shocking death.
Fighting out of Berlin, the Russian native had amassed a fine record of 9-0-1 (7 KOs), typically hovering around the super-middleweight and light-heavyweight divisions.
And despite never progressing beyond the six-round level, Yusupov was nonetheless known for his ferocious power, ending the majority of his professional outings inside the distance.
His last fight against Giorgi Kandelaki, however, saw him claim a unanimous decision victory back in January, representing his final performance in the ring.
As for the next steps, it would appear that German police are set to investigate his brutal murder, seeking to discover exactly why the father of three was targeted.
But of course, the events leading up to his passing should take nothing away from the fact that three children have been left with just one parent.
