PARIS 2024 Olympian Pat Brown has signed a professional contract with Matchroom Boxing.
The promotional outfit had been teasing some big news in recent days via social media and the announcement was made official at 10am today.
Brown, who grew up watching Ricky Hatton, is a fellow Mancunian and celebrated his 25th birthday earlier this month. The former amateur heavyweight gained his place at this summer’s Paris Games having beat Poland’s Mateusz Bereznicki in an Olympic qualifier. Brown’s stay in the French capital would be short, however, after he was eliminated in the round of 16 by World Amateur silver medallist Keno Marley Machado.
The former scaffolder fought his way through the amateur ranks under the guidance of Nigel and Kelvin Travis at the Moss Side Fire station boxing club. And mong Brown’s achievements were winning the England Boxing National Amateur Championships and a gold medal at the World Boxing Cup.
Brown, who is managed by Sam Jones, will compete in the professional ranks at cruiserweight and make his debut in 2025. He will be trained by Jamie Moore and Nigel Travis at the V.I.P Gym in Astley alongside Jack Catterall, Cameron Vuong and more.
“Since meeting with Eddie and Frank for the first time, it was clear that our visions aligned,” said Brown. “Matchroom were always my first choice, but you have to weigh up all of your options. After really exciting discussions about the future, it was a no brainer to go with them.
“They are at the pinnacle of boxing and have a great stable of fighters, and I am excited to be the next generation to dominate over the next decade. I believe I have the best team next to me in Eddie and Frank to help me achieve this.
“There’s some huge fights to be made and my dreams have always been to sell out arenas, to bring back them Ricky Hatton days in Manchester. That’s what always gets me going, to have some good wars and good boxing fights. Watch this space, I’ll be coming for it all.”
