SALE banger Pat Brown made it three wins in a row as a pro, blasting away Lewis Oakford at the Manchester Arena earlier this evening. Touted as a test, Brown had a little look for the first 90 seconds before unloading a blast of weaponry that could not be matched.

Brown’s first two outings had resulted in relatively straightforward finishes. Arriving with eight fights under his belt and a winning record, Oakford had mixed in decent class and was expected to offer a touch of resistance.

It was not to be. The ‘Mighty Oak’ was hurt, backed up and sitting on the ropes in the corner, shipping uppercuts and scything hooks. Bury referee John Latham stood off and gave Wycombe man Oakford every opportunity to get back into it, but he could not oblige. It was stopped at 2-06 of the first, scheduled for eight.

Improving to 3-0 (3 KOs), Pat Brown versus Aloys Junior, who took a cumbersome three rounds to remove the same opponent, has been mentioned as a mouth-watering future meeting. Lewis Oakford dropped to 6-3 and is at risk of becoming a British title gatekeeper.

“This fight got me revved up. Everyone said my defence is bad, this and that,” admitted Brown, who wanted to show his poise and patience.

“Every punch I try and throw with bad intentions, but as you climb the ranks, you can’t do that. No need to rush too fast. I’m enjoying it and I’m here to stay.”

Promoter Eddie Hearn added: “He’s ‘orrible, an absolute savage. One of the most exciting fighters in the world right now. That was supposed to be a step-up. The support’s incredible. It’s going to be hard to stop that train. Him and Aloys in here, would fill the place up, what a fight. Filth!”
