Will 2026 be the year we finally see Tyson Fury fight Anthony Joshua?

Promoters Frank Warren, Eddie Hearn and Riyadh Season dealmaker Turki Alalshikh have all offered promising soundbites in recent months, despite Fury having announced his retirement at the start of the year.

Fury is no stranger to comebacks, however, and is rumoured to be preparing for a return next year to face Joshua at Wembley Stadium, perhaps after one tune-up fight.

Speculation over a British superfight has dragged on for years and, with both men former world champions, they have now reached a point where the most logical move is to face one another. The four heavyweight belts are currently split between Oleksandr Usyk and Fabio Wardley, and neither Fury nor Joshua appear close to another title shot.

If the fight finally takes place, how would it unfold? The two share several common opponents, among them Sweden’s Otto Wallin — who lost to Fury in 2019 and Joshua in 2023 — and Wallin, 28-3 (16 KOs), offered his view to Hajper.

“AJ is very powerful and if he can have the right game plan and just hit Fury to the body and unload some really big shots to the body, I think that can really slow Fury down. But Fury is a great boxer. So it would be very interesting. I would like to see it. To me, I feel like it’s a 50-50 fight.”

Fury survived a horrendous cut to outpoint Wallin in Las Vegas, while Joshua dispatched the Swede far more decisively, forcing him into a fifth-round retirement.
