Oscar Duarte facing new opponent after Regis Prograis withdraws injured

IT HAS now been confirmed that Regis Prograis is out of his February 15 clash with Oscar Duarte. The card still goes ahead at the Honda Center in California, with Miguel Madueno stepping in to face Duarte in the 12-round main event.

Many expected Prograis to retire after his loss to Jack Catterall last year in England. Instead, he signed on the dotted line for the Duarte assignment on this Golden Boy card, televised on DAZN. Regis took to social media to express his frustration at the show-stopping setback.

All that sacrifice and training for nothing 😒

The Prograis neck injury has opened up a door for Madueno, who was last seen in July 2024, dropping a 10-round decision to Keyshawn Davis, who also returns to action next weekend.

Duarte, meanwhile, has been steadily rebuilding following a knockout loss to Ryan Garcia. His win over Batyr Akhmedov in November was an all-action affair and Madueno’s style almost guarantees a similar mixture here.

As for Prograis, he teased a bareknuckle debut in the Catterall post-fight interview, but his body is unlikely to hold up to such physical scrutiny. The Catterall loss was damaging, as was his lopsided defeat to Devin Haney before that. It’s difficult to see how he will bounce back.
