Oscar De La Hoya kills off Floyd Mayweather rematch rumours

OSCAR DE LA HOYA has rejected Floyd Mayweather’s prospective offer of a rematch, insisting he is happy in retirement.

In a video posted online by Black Sports Online’s Kel Dansby, Mayweather responded to rumours of a De La Hoya comeback by expressing an interest in facing the 42-year-old in a rematch of their 2007 fight.

De La Hoya had recently spoken about how he thinks about making a return every day, sparking speculation over a potential return to the ring for the ‘Golden Boy’.

However, in a change of heart, he took to social media last night to quash the rumours and rule himself out as a potential opponent for Mayweather’s mooted last outing on September 12.

Mayweather beat De La Hoya on a split decision in a closely-contested fight, and the head of Golden Boy Promotions explained there was an one-year rematch clause, which evidently expired.

While ‘Money’ has continued fighting, bar a hiatus between 2007 and 2009, De La Hoya has not fought since his defeat to Manny Pacquiao in 2008.
