Oscar Collazo and Gabriela Fundora return on Golden Boy doubleheader

OSCAR Collazo and Gabriela Fundora will feature in a couple of intriguing keep busy appearances on September 20 in Indio’s Fantasy Springs Casino.

DAZN will broadcast the show that sees two of Golden Boy Boxing’s golden stars shake things out. Collazo meets Filipino ‘Striker’ Jayson Vayson, who was initially touted for a bout on the same night versus Regie Suganob.

Fundora is paired with Ayelen Micaela Granadin, a light-punching 12-2-4 Argentine fighter who will struggle to cause the rampant champion too many issues.

Both headline acts are unified world champions within their respective weight classes, with Puerto Rican Collazo holding the WBA ‘Super’ and WBO minimumweight crowns. Fundora is the reigning undisputed flyweight queen in the female code.

Currently 12-0 (9 KOs), Collazo is one of the more exciting world champions on the scene, even though his 105-pound stature means the former Olympian often gets overlooked. His seventh-round thumping of Thailand’s then-unbeaten Thammanoon Niyomtrong in Riyadh caught the eye.

“It will be the perfect opportunity to dazzle and represent Puerto Rico on such a big platform,” said Collazo, regarding the Vayson test.

“We will enter the ring very prepared, with a lot of boxing IQ. We know Vayson is a great fighter and that he will be hungry to dethrone me, but he won’t be able to, because I have worked hard to defend what is mine and represent my island with pride.”

Gabriela Fundora

Fundora, meanwhile, dished out a beating on 19-0-1 Marilyn Badillo Amaya in her last outing, halting the overmatched Mexican in round seven. It was a statement win similar in fashion to her co-headliner.

The Fundora family are riding high as brother Sebastian further establishes himself as the leading 154-pound fighter under the PBC banner.

“I’m staying 100 per cent focused on defending my belts,” said Gabriela Fundora, through the press material. “Our immediate teamwork’s intelligent planning and dedicated commitment is the result of our reality.”
