FLOYD “KID AUSTIN” SCHOFIELD’S comeback has been put on hold after the lightweight prospect was forced to withdraw from his November 8 fight against Jo Jo Diaz due to injury.
Golden Boy Promotions confirmed that Schofield sustained a Grade 2 sprain to his right wrist, including minor ligament damage, ruling him out of the ‘Dare to Enter’ show in Fort Worth, Texas.
“On Thursday, Oct. 23, Floyd Schofield Jr. sustained a Grade 2 sprain to his right wrist, which included minor ligament damage. Following medical evaluation and on the advice of his team, Schofield has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled bout against Joseph ‘JoJo’ Diaz on Saturday, Nov. 8. Golden Boy wishes him a full and speedy recovery,” read a statement from the promotional company.
The 23-year-old was coming off a spectacular first-round stoppage of Tevin Farmer in June — his 19th professional victory — which helped restore momentum following the disappointment of his planned bout with WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson falling through in February. Schofield was struck by illness during Beterbiev-Bivol 2 fight week, forcing his withdrawal as Stevenson went on to defend successfully against late replacement Josh Padley.
Golden Boy’s Dare to Enter card will now proceed one fight lighter. The main event sees WBC Interim super-welterweight title-holder Vergil Ortiz Jr (23-0, 21 KOs) face former world title challenger Erickson “The Hammer” Lubin (27-2, 19 KOs) at Dickies Arena. The winner could move towards a 2026 blockbuster against Jaron “Boots” Ennis.
Also confirmed for the card is a 10-round super-middleweight contest between Darius “DFG” Fulghum (14-1, 12 KOs) and David “Dynamite” Stevens (15-2, 10 KOs), while heavyweight 2024 Olympian Joshua “The Rocket” Edwards (4-0, 4 KOs) continues his rise against Zeno Vooris (5-1, 5 KOs).
