GOING into the final fight of his glittering career, Miguel Cotto has no hesitancy about finally calling it a day.

The four weight world champion will defend his WBO super-welterweight world title against Sadam Ali on December 2 at Madison Square Garden in New York. Cotto has accomplished everything he wished to, but wants to sign off with a final flourish.

“I have done everything in my career that I wanted to do,” he said. “I enjoyed my whole career, every victory became part of my career and I’m happy.

“I’ve been blessed. I had a wonderful career. Every hard moment in the gym, every hard moment on the bag, my fights were a reflection of all my hard work.”

He put himself “on the map” against Ricardo Torres and has fought the biggest names in the sport, Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao and Canelo Alvarez. He beat Sergio Martinez to win the WBC middleweight title and picked up the WBO super-welterweight belt this year.

“All I did in my career was trying to do my best,” he said. “I just tried to do my best every day.”

Already one of Puerto Rico’s finest boxers, the situation at home is on his mind as he prepares for this fight.

“I’ve been in Puerto Rico my whole life and I know how capable Puerto Rican people are,” he said. “The hurricane was tough but together we are going to overcome the situation.”
