'I'm not scared,' promises Carlos Takam as he steps in to fight Anthony Joshua in Cardiff

CARLOS TAKAM insists he’s undaunted travelling to the Principality Stadium in Cardiff next Saturday (October 28) to challenge Anthony Joshua.

Takam, who has lost to Joseph Parker and Alexander Povetkin in his career, was on stand by and stepped in to challenge IBF and WBA heavyweight champion Joshua when original opponent Kubrat Pulev suffered an injury.

The Cameroonian, based in France, is determined to seize this opportunity. “I believe in myself. I never go into a fight thinking I might lose – I’m a winner, I like to win not to lose,” he told Sky Sports.

He presents a different style to what Joshua was preparing for in Pulev. “AJ is a good boxer who likes to box and I like opponents who like to come forward and throw punches. I like to get stuck in as well,” he explained.

Takam was preparing with a possible Joshua fight in mind but would have boxed on November 4 in Monaco. But stepping up to an event of this magnitude is something wholly new to him. “I’m not scared,” he promised.

“80,000 fans means nothing to me. I’ve boxed in New Zealand, Canada, Russia [so] that won’t faze me. It’s about what happens in the ring. It’s about me and him.”
