Nigel Benn is keen for his son to have one roll of the dice at 168lbs, despite rumours suggesting that he will return to welterweight later this year.

Conor Benn made 150lbs for his last outing against Regis Prograis, who he unanimously outpointed on the undercard of Tyson Fury vs Arslanbek Makhmudov earlier this month.

This followed his wide points victory in November, when ‘The Destroyer’ exacted his revenge over Chris Eubank Jr in their middleweight rematch.

Despite being the much smaller man, Benn gave himself a considerable edge by introducing a rehydration clause for both of their encounters, preventing Eubank from exceeding the 170lb limit on the morning of each fight.

Against Prograis, however, the 29-year-old was the naturally bigger man, facing an opponent who later claimed to have sustained multiple injuries and announced his retirement.

Having inked a new multi-fight deal with Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing, though, Benn is now chasing a far greater challenge against WBC world welterweight champion Ryan Garcia.

The pair share related history, given they have both previously failed doping tests, yet Garcia has already suggested that they will lock horns in August.

But while this is the career-defining opportunity Benn has long demanded, his father, Nigel, has told BoxingScene that a trilogy with Eubank could also come to fruition.

“Conor really boxed [Eubank’s] head off, and you’re talking about a blown-up welterweight. I believe he should have a third fight with Conor at super-middleweight. Conor would still do him.

“[Eubank’s] not the same fighter he was five years ago, six years ago, and it’s catching up with him. His chin’s gone. The next fight, we’ll see where he is – if he’s going to do super-middleweight, we’ll see where he goes from there.”

The optics of Benn fighting at 168lbs are difficult to imagine, while Eubank has more or less confirmed that super-middleweight is where his next outing will take place.
