AMERICAN Demetrius Andrade dominated Walter Kautondokwa to win the vacant WBO middleweight title, dominating on the scorecards as he took the unanimous decision 119-105 and 120-104 twice at the TD Garden in Boston.
Andrade was originally due to fight Billy Joe Saunders, who vacated the belt after an anti-doping violation with VADA. Now Andrade wants to take on the middleweight superstars.
“I think it would be good to get back in the ring and get another 12 rounds,” he noted. “I’m here because I made the right move, I’m going to stick to the game plan.”
He continued, “Definitely DAZN [the broadcaster] is the way to get in the zone. The middleweight division is here and I’m part of it. We’ll be able to make history here. Canelo [Alvarez] is the face of boxing and if I want to be that I have to get in the ring with him. Him being here has given me the opportunity to make that happen.”
Tevin Farmer defended his IBF super-featherweight title, putting James Tennyson down in the fourth and fifth rounds, stopping him at 1-44 of the fifth.
Katie Taylor defended her IBF and WBA lightweight titles, taking a unanimous decision over Cindy Serrano, even with countryman UFC star Conor McGregor supporting.
Olympic champion Daniyar Yeleussinov knocked out Matt Doherty in the first round. Northern Ireland’s Sean McComb stopped Carlos Galindo in three rounds.
On the undercard Britons Kid Galahad, Tommy Coyle and Scott Quigg all picked up victories over Toka Kahn Clary, Ryan Kielczweski and Mario Briones.
