Nathaniel Collins set for Glasgow headliner in October
Nathaniel Collins

UNBEATEN featherweight Nathaniel Collins will lead the way in the Braehead Arena, Glasgow, on October 4 when the Scotsman faces European featherweight king Cristobal Lorente. The rising hope will be joined by undefeated Glaswegian Regan ‘The Shark’ Glackin, who takes on reigning English champion Louie O’Doherty. Willy Hutchinson is also scheduled to appear.

Collins, 17-0 (8 KOs), is enjoying a rich vein of form, having dropped and stopped Scottish rival Lee McGregor in four rounds in Glasgow’s SSE Hydro. That win came almost a year to the day after a European ‘Silver’ title-winning effort over Francesco Grandelli in York Hall.

After losing to Collins, the Italian lost again, over the distance to Cristobal Lorente, the same Spaniard Collins meets next. Both men enjoyed success and some difficult rounds against Grandelli, so that common opponent tells us little as to how the October clash will go. However, hometown hero Collins will fancy himself as the fight favourite.

Meanwhile, Regan Glackin tweeted that he is ready to change his life after receiving a premium spot on this hometown card. Glackin is yet to taste defeat, just like his opponent, Louie O’Doherty, who was last seen outpointing Youssef Khoumari in York Hall. Glackin has a couple of good wins at the Celtic title level, and both have experienced going the 12-round distance, so it should heat up nicely.

Elsewhere on the card, Willy Hutchinson is set to return to action. ‘The Hutch Train’ was last seen suffering a second career defeat, this time to Joshua Buatsi in Wembley. There could be a rematch down the line as Buatsi has since inked a deal with Queensberry Promotions, along with current European champion Bradley Rea. Exciting times ahead for Frank Warren’s light-heavyweight bundle.
