Miguel Cotto will be back

The great Miguel Cotto expects to fight later this year

MIGUEL COTTO should box before the end of 2016. But it means he’s likely to go almost 12 months without a competive bout. He last boxed in November 2015 when he lost a decision after 12 entertaining rounds with Mexican star Saul Alvarez.

While Cotto has staged a resurgence since linking up with trainer Freddie Roach, he has been through many hard fights in a long career. The 35 year old doesn’t need to fight too frequently. He boxed just twice last year and only once in 2014 and once in 2013. Over the course of his career Cotto has fought the biggest names in the sports, both Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, Sergio Martinez for the WBC middleweight title, Zab Judah, Shane Moseley and his grudge matches with Antonio Margarito. However it currently remains unclear who his next opponent will be.

“We are hoping to have Miguel back in the ring before the end of the year,” said Michael Yomark of Rocnation. “We’re working on that now. We’re hopeful to have some kind of an announcement over the next couple of weeks. We’re looking at a couple of opponents but it’s too early to disclose who we’re talking to.”
