The rematch between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn is just hours away.

Eubank Jr and Benn will meet at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London this evening, seven months on from their first bout which saw Eubank win by unanimous decision.

Many theories have been discussed ahead of the second battle, including whether it could be too quick a turnaround for Eubank, or if Benn may have missed his chance in the first contest.

Former world champion Barry McGuigan has now offered his verdict, explaining in his Daily Mirror column how he sees the bout going.

“Benn will have analysed the last fight and realised he did not get on the gas quickly enough. He has to be aggressive, take the fight to Eubank from the outset, stay on top of him, throwing punches non-stop.

“Had he done that earlier he might have edged it last time. Eubank likes to slow the pace and pick off from long range. The way to beat that is to slam in the jab, letting your opponent feel the pressure.

“That initial investment in pressure will bring its reward in the second half of the fight. Benn is naturally aggressive. Though Eubank faded in their first meeting it was too late for Benn by then.

“Benn’s trainer Tony Simms will have identified where they went wrong and how they can be better.”

McGuigan then discussed his final prediction, claiming he wouldn’t be surprised if Benn ends the fight by stoppage.

“For me it’s simple. Benn must apply intelligent pressure behind a rapier jab. The old saying, that the jab will get you around the world, is true. It is the most important punch in the book, triggering those rolling combinations, which have to be delivered at pace.

“Benn risks getting caught but that is the game. This is an amazing opportunity to clean the slate and post a famous win.

“I believe he will, and it would not surprise me were Benn to finish it inside the distance.”

Whether or not McGuigan is correct will be revealed later tonight.
