THE world title fights on the Gennady Golovkin-Kell Brook undercard may capture most of the attention, but for Martin Ward, fighting Andy Townend for the British super-featherweight title, means everything.

“I cannot wait,” Ward told Boxing News. “Near enough four years to the day I turned pro, turned pro on September 12 2012. I’ve come a long way. But this title’s coming my way on Saturday night. Andy Townend is not stopping me.”

Looking at the opponent facing him, Ward explained, “He’s very rough, rugged and robotic, if you want to put it that way, but I’m going to be too good for him. I’m too good of a boxer, too good of a fighter, too good all round for him.

“It’s going to be a good fight, he’s going to be coming to fight so it’s going to be a good exciting fight. I think the fight’s going to steal the show, to be honest. I’m going to shining on Saturday night.”

He needs to win this to advance to higher levels of course, but the title alone matters a great deal to Ward. “It’s going to mean the world to me on Saturday night when I put it on my father’s shoulder at the end of the night. It’s going to mean the world to me,” he said. “I can’t wait.”
