Marcos Maidana has been called out by a former foe, who would agree to a rematch if the Argentinian whips himself into shape.

The former two-weight world champion has not fought since his second encounter with Floyd Mayweather, which resulted in a unanimous decision defeat in 2014.

Their first fight, earlier that year, saw Mayweather edge a majority decision, though many felt his opponent had done enough to emerge victorious.

Even after their rematch, Maidana remained a formidable puncher at just 30 years old, but ultimately decided to call time on his storied career.

‘El Chino’ then attempted to make a comeback in 2019, only to remain retired after struggling to drop down from a reported 240lbs.

Subsequently, there was a planned exhibition match against former kickboxing champion Jorge Cali, who sadly passed away in 2021 after their encounter was postponed during the COVID pandemic.

But despite Maidana, now 42, having not fought for over a decade, former rival Adrien Broner seemingly remains eager to exact his revenge.

When asked about a potential rematch during his Kick livestream, though, the 36-year-old admitted it can only happen if both himself Maidana shed some weight.

“Last time Maidana tried to fight, almost died from the training. But [the rematch] would be like the biggest fight in the world.

“I would love to do it. If Maidana’s down and we both get in some shape [then] fight me for round two. That’s the biggest fight ever.”

Maidana handed Broner his first professional defeat in 2013, scoring two knockdowns before unanimously outpointing the then-WBA welterweight champion.

The American then eventually retired as a four-division world champion, with his last fight ending in a unanimous decision defeat to Blair Cobbs in 2024.
