Luke Fisher – 60 second interview

When and why you started boxing:

A week before my 11th birthday my dad put a bag up in my room and then took me to the boxing club.

Favourite all-time fighter:

Mike Tyson because of his persona. He was almost bigger than boxing.

Best fight you’ve seen:

The ABA semi-final between Jordan Reynolds and Ben Fail in 2017. It was a brilliant fight.

Personal career highlight:

Beating Martin Stead to win the Combined Services title for the Navy for the third time. [Fisher served in the Royal Navy for four-and-a-half years]. I was over the moon with that one.

Toughest opponent:

Team GB boxer Pat McCormack. I boxed him in the amateurs. He was different gravy – a really good fighter.

Best and worst attributes as a boxer:

My best attribute is my ability to change the pace of a fight – speed it up or slow it down as and when I please. My worst is that I get too involved sometimes, especially in sparring.

Training tip:

You need to train properly, get your nutrition and rest up. A lot of people forget how important it is to rest.

Favourite meal/restaurant:

Chicken korma from any good curry house.

Best friends in boxing:

Kallum Radley and Bradley Chapman, who I met and trained with in the Navy.

Other sportsman you would like to be:

Rory McIlroy. You can make a lot of money from golf and it’s not exactly strenuous.

Last film/TV show you saw:

The documentary, Abducted in Plain Sight. It’s a strange one but I’m really into that stuff.

Who would play you in a film of your life:

Someone charismatic and good-looking hopefully!

Have you ever been starstruck:

Not really, although I met Anthony Joshua a few times before he became massive.

Last time you cried:

Watching [TV series] Long Lost Family.

Best advice received:

‘Stick at it.’ My mum and dad said this to me when I considered quitting boxing in the past. I’m glad I listened to them, as I’ve come a long way since then.

Worst rumour about yourself:

I don’t think I’ve heard anything. When I hear the first rumour about me, I’ll know I’ve made it!

Something not many people know about you: I love cooking. If I wasn’t a boxer, I’d probably be a chef. I’d be a fat one as well!
