AUSTRALIAN heavyweight Lucas Browne has failed another drug test.
The WBC confirmed that they received notification from VADA regarding an adverse finding from a test performed in Australia to boxer Lucas Browne. They added in a statement that: “The WBC CBP (CLEAN BOXING PROGRAM) will follow its protocol and has begun its investigation of the facts and will be updating information about this case in the near future.”
They also pointed out that Browne “enrolled in the CBP in a voluntary basis and will certainly have the opportunity to request the opening of the B sample according to protocol and the CBP Rules and regulations.”
After beating Ruslan Chagaev in Grozny in March he tested positive for Clenbuterol. He fought to clear is name and had been linked to a contest with Shannon Briggs for a secondary WBA heavyweight title.
That has now been thrown into doubt. ESPN are reporting that Browne failed this VADA test, part of the WBC’s Clean Boxing programme, testing positive for ostarine.
Browne held a significant position in the heavyweight division. While he had not hugely impressed, he was highly ranked by the WBA, creating speculation that he could potentially have snared a fight with a comebacking Wladimir Klitschko and he drew the attention of high profile fighters like David Haye. He will now however have to come under close scrutiny.
