AFTER extending his deal with Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions, Lucas Bahdi has now secured himself a meaningful opportunity against former WBA champion Roger Gutierrez.
It was announced via social media just yesterday that the pair will collide on August 23, featuring on a stacked MVP card in Orlando, Florida.
Not only that, but their lightweight matchup, which has been sanctioned as a WBA eliminator, should take the winner one step closer towards becoming the mandatory challenger for Gervonta Davis’ black and gold title.
Aside from the stakes at play, this upcoming assignment represents a notable step up for Bahdi, 19-0 (15 KOs), who has firmly established himself as a promising yet unproven puncher.
Despite facing unbeaten opposition in his last three outings, the Canadian is yet to test himself against a fighter with the credentials of Gutierrez, 29-6-1 (22 KOs), who, even now, remains a serviceable operator at 135lbs.
The Venezuelan’s two best wins arrived against Rene Alvarado in 2021, before he then suffered points defeats to the likes of Hector Luis Garcia and Zaur Abdullaev.
Yet still, Gutierrez should nonetheless introduce Bahdi to a career-toughest test, while perhaps proving to be a stern but calculated risk.
Headlining that MVP card next month will be Yankiel Rivera vs Angelino Cordova, while several more intriguing matchups – including Yoenis Tellez vs Abass Baraou and Jamaine Ortiz vs Steve Claggett – are likely to make for a compelling night of action.
Along with that, two world title offerings will see Stephanie Han and Jasmine Artiga make voluntary defences of their respective WBA straps.
