Having previously fought Shakur Stevenson, Teofimo Lopez has considered how his former foe might fare against Gervonta Davis, who is being linked to a comeback fight following his lengthy spell of inactivity.
Before taking on Stevenson, Lopez had become a two-division world champion by dethroning modern greats Vasyl Lomachenko and Josh Taylor at 135 and 140lbs, respectively.
In particular, many would regard Lomachenko as his greatest opponent, given the three-division world champion’s accolades across the professional and amateur ranks.
According to Lopez, though, Stevenson happens to be the best fighter he has ever faced, with their super-lightweight encounter developing into a one-sided mismatch last January.
As a result of his unanimous decision victory, Stevenson became a four-division world champion and signed a promotional deal with Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing.
Since then, there has been no confirmation of an opponent, date or location for his next outing, though the 29-year-old appears to be in talks for a unification match with Gary Antuanne Russell later this year.
From a general fans’ perspective, however, the most appealing opponent for Stevenson is still Davis, who has not fought since his controversial draw with Lamont Roach in March 2025.
Yet despite the inactivity, and Stevenson being the best he has faced, Lopez – who shared intense sparring rounds with Davis when they were in the amateur ranks – said during a live stream that he would back ‘Tank’ to win their long-awaited showdown.
“Tank [wins]. It would be a good one, though. [Stevenson is] the best fighter I’ve ever fought.”
At the age of 31, Davis is now being linked to a comeback fight against George Kambosos Jr, who has not fought since suffering an eighth-round stoppage defeat to Richardson Hitchins in June 2025.
