UNBEATEN light-middleweight Lloyd Ellett is set to perform in his hometown of Brighton on October 2, on a show staged by his manager, former WBO heavyweight title challenger Scott Welch.
“I’m next out on October 2 down in Brighton, although I haven’t got an opponent scheduled yet,” Ellett confirmed to Boxing News. “It’ll be the fourth time I’ve fought in my hometown as a pro, and they’ve all been at the Metropole Hotel. I know the venue well – I fought there about 10 times as an amateur too. It’s a good place. I love boxing there.”
While Ellett enjoys competing on the south coast, the 28-year-old is aware that he will have to fight further afield in the future in order to be involved in big bouts.
“I love fighting in Brighton, but I realise that in order to move up in the game, I’m going to have to fight in bigger cities where the big shows are staged,” he said. “I’m happy fighting anywhere. When I’ve boxed in London in the past, I’ve taken 200 fans with me from Brighton. The journey’s not too long, so that’s a good thing.”
Although Lloyd lives in Sussex, he trains around 60 miles away in Bromley. Despite the lengthy journey, he is adamant that he wouldn’t want to be training anywhere else.
“Training at iBox Gym under Alan Smith and Eddie Lam is going really well. It’s brilliant. I’m learning every day, so I’ve got no complaints. I regularly spar my gym-mates [ex-British and Commonwealth welterweight championship contestant] Bradley Skeete and [former Southern Area welter titlist] Johnny Garton, plus we always get fighters from other gyms coming over for sparring.”
After 17 wins in his 17 pro outings so far, Ellett is now looking to increase his level of opposition, in order to move into a position to secure national honours.
“I’d like to step up,” he stated. “I feel like I’m at English title level now, so it’d be good to fight for that belt. I want to face someone who’s really going to test me. If things keep going well with my training and everything, I’d definitely like to fight for the British title next year. I’m promoted by Queensberry Promotions now, so the big opportunities are going to arrive for me, especially on BoxNation. As long as I keep busy and keep winning, the British title is the target for me next year.”
