Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua’s long-awaited meeting will finally take place this year.
Now, British heavyweight legend Lennox Lewis has provided his prediction for this generation’s ‘Battle of Britain’.
Lewis took part in another ‘Battle of Britain’ – also in Cardiff – when he made a second successful defence of his WBC heavyweight world title in 1993 by knocking out Frank Bruno.
‘The Lion’ went on to become the United Kingdom’s only three-time heavyweight ruler with wins in rematches against Oliver McCall and Hasim Rahman. He remains as one of just four heavyweights to be regarded as a three-time world champion in the history of the sport.
However, on December 11, Fury and Joshua will have the chance to join Lewis, Muhammad Ali, Vitali Klitschko and Evander Holyfield in that exclusive club, following the news that a vacant WBA (Super) world title will be on the line when the two collide.
Speaking to Rex K-Addo, Lewis looked ahead to the event and explained why he believes that the fans will be treated to a ‘good fight’.
“When two guys are supposed to fight and then it takes a long time for them to fight, then all of a sudden the fight is happening, you get a good fight no matter what because there is a lot of ego involved.
“There is a lot of different things that are involved in this fight, that these guys want to end.”
Then, Lewis admitted that he is leaning towards Fury at present, feeling that his recent triumphs over Arslanbek Makhmudov and Mariusz Wach have him better prepared for the clash.
“Right now, I would say that Tyson Fury is leading the way because of who he fought and how many rounds he went, so he is more prepared.”
Fury-Joshua takes place at the Principality stadium in Wales and will be streamed live and exclusive on Netflix.
