THE legendary Kronk gym has burned down. The gym where Manny Steward trained Tommy Hearns and many others became famous the world over.
However late on Saturday night the building above it caught fire and collapsed.
“I hope it meant to Detroit almost as much as it meant to me,” Tommy Hearns told the Detroit Free Press. “This was a safe haven for me.
“What this building brought for me was a chance at life. I got a chance to become somebody out of this building right here.
“To see it like this is pitiful — it’s really pitiful.”
The gym was disused and the building had been shut down. The fire is thought to be suspicious.
