LAWRENCE OKOLIE and David Adeleye are to feature on a heavyweight triple header in Lagos, Nigeria, on December 19.
The event, which has been billed as ‘Chaos in the Ring II’, will also see a trio of promotional outfits – including Queensberry Promotions, Amir Khan Promotions and Balmoral Group Promotions – combine their resources to deliver a ‘world-class’ occasion.
Topping the bill is former world cruiserweight champion Okolie, 22-1 (16 KOs), who cemented his position as the WBC’s number-one ranked contender – Agit Kabayel is the ‘interim’ champion – with a unanimous decision victory over Kevin Lerena in July.
And while it was hardly a jaw-droppingly scintillating display at Wembley Stadium, ‘The Sauce’ could perhaps be forgiven after it was later revealed that he had suffered a torn bicep.
Now, though, it seems that a fully-recovered Okolie is hoping to produce a far more memorable performance, this time against an opponent that is yet to be announced.
In a press release, the 31-year-old said: “Big time boxing comes to Lagos!!! This will be a historic moment for Africa, my family and my career. There’s been a lot of talk, but let’s see who really wants to dance.
“Detty December just got Saucy. Thanks to [Frank and George Warren] and Queensberry for making this happen for me.”
Elsewhere on the card, former British champion Adeleye, 14-2 (13 KOs), looks to maintain his position on the international stage following a points defeat to Filip Hrgovic in August.
Despite ultimately losing the contest, the 28-year-old had the towering Croatian seriously hurt in round eight and, by his own admission, could not quite finish his dinner.
Nevertheless, Adeleye joins his British-Nigerian heavyweight counterpart, albeit without an opponent as of yet, in a bid to remain active before 2025 comes to pass.
“Nigeria – Motide, mo wa nile – I’m coming home,” Adeleye said. “What an honour and a pleasure it will be to fight back home in my parent’s land.
“A country that has birthed many greats, and I’m adding to that list. It’s a dream come true.”
Completing the trio of heavyweights is the unbeaten Emanuel Odiase, who fought on the last Nigerian boxing show – headlined by Brandon Glanton vs Marcus Browne – earlier this month.
At the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in December, meanwhile, there will also be an all-African clash between featherweights Taiwo Agbaje and Musa Tope Tajudeen.
