ROY JONES JR is going to have one more fight and retire. The 48-year-old legend will take on an opponent to be decided in a cruiserweight bout on February 8 at the Pensacola Bay Center in his hometown of Pensacola, Florida.

“You should call it my last day at the Bay,” Jones Jnr announced via social media. “It’s my last one for the Bayfront, Civic Center, Pensacola, Bayfront Arena, whatever you want to call it.

“So if you want to come to see my last day in Pensacola, be there Feb. 8. That’s my last one there.”

The show is set to feature both boxing and MMA, with Jones Jr – despite several years flirting with the possibility of switching disciplines – wisely sticking to boxing.

The ring wizard held world titles at middleweight, super-middleweight, light-heavyweight and heavyweight during an illustrious and glorious peak. But following an upset loss to Antonio Tarver in 2004, Jones Jr has been in decline.

That descent accelerated in recent years, with a violent knockout loss in 2015 to Enzo Maccarinelli his most recent outing against anyone approaching world class. In his most recent contest in February 2017, Jones Jr was too much for Bobby Gunn.

Jones’ record reads 65-9 (47).
