Kristian Prenga almost shocked the world when he went toe-to-toe with Anthony Joshua and nearly scuppered plans for a Tyson Fury showdown last month. Now, the Albanian has offered his thoughts on whether Joshua’s best days are behind him.
When ‘AJ’ announced that Prenga would be in the opposing corner for his comeback, some fans felt disappointed, anticipating a one-sided and uncompetitive event in Jeddah that would not reveal much about where the two-time heavyweight world champion is at in his career.
However, on fight night, Prenga twice dropped the Briton in the opening round in one of the most shocking moments of the 2026 boxing calendar thus far. Joshua bounced back and delivered an emphatic second-round knockout to halt the upset in its tracks, but the performance raised more questions than answers.
Fury-Joshua remains unannounced as prolonged discussions regarding the location of the event continue. Discussing that proposed bout with Tris Dixon, Prenga denied the idea that Joshua is ‘past his best’ and declared that ‘it will not be an easy fight for Tyson Fury’.
“It’s not true. Joshua is a great fighter. He has experience. He has power and I know he went through a lot in his life – as we all know. But it’s not an easy fight for Tyson Fury. I promise you.”
Eddie Hearn has recently expressed an interest in adding Prenga to his heavyweight stable following his efforts against Joshua but, as of now, the 35-year-old remains a promotional free agent.
As for ‘AJ’, despite the lack of an official announcement, all roads lead to Fury, where he must be more switched on from the opening bell than he was in Jeddah last month.
