Kieron Conway set for British title fight on Fisher-Allen 2 card

KIERON Conway finds himself in pole position to challenge for the British middleweight title after it was vacated by Denzel Bentley.

At one stage, it appeared as though the pair would collide in a mouth-watering domestic dustup later this year, with neither fighter having an opponent lined up as of yet.

But now, with Bentley seemingly looking to push on beyond British level following his victory over Brad Pauls last December, Conway, 22-3-1 (6 KOs), is likely to challenge for the vacant Lonsdale Belt.

The 28-year-old comes off a split decision victory over Ryan Kelly last November, claiming his fourth win since suffering a unanimous decision defeat to Austin Williams in 2022.

Elsewhere in his career, ‘Too Class’ has bested the likes of Linus Udofia and James Metcalf while also losing a split decision to Olympic bronze medallist Souleymane Cissokho.

In other words, the Northampton man has fully earned himself a British title shot and, as it happens, he is poised to secure just that on May 17.

According to a British Boxing Board of Control circular published earlier this month, an agreement has been reached for Conway to take on Gerome Warburton.

More than likely, their clash will feature on the undercard of Johnny Fisher and Dave Allen’s heavyweight rematch at the Copper Box Arena in London, England.

Like Conway, Warburton, 15-1-2 (2 KOs), encountered a tricky night’s work when he fought Kelly last year, only their clash ended in a draw through 10 rounds.

But while ‘Bread Maker’ is yet to be announced as an opponent, Conway should nonetheless be given a British title shot on the Matchroom card in May.
