Khaleel Majid aiming to build on career momentum
Khaleel Majid

ALMOST two months removed from his all-action affair with Alex Murphy in an English title eliminator, Khaleel Majid looks to the future.

With nothing but positive feedback for his last fight, which was the first fight broadcast on DAZN as part of their new bumper deal with Queensberry Promotions, it’s all about building momentum for Majid.

“April 5th feels like yesterday, but time has gone by quickly. Based on all the feedback, it was a good fight; we delivered for the fans that showed up and spent their hard-earned money on the night to support both of us. Credit to Alex for bringing it and the two of us put on the fight of the night. It’s time to push on with my career now,” Majid told Boxing News.

‘I’ve had a lot of new eyes on me after that fight and it was the first fight on the live broadcast on DAZN, which was great for me personally. The first fight to be shown for Queensberry Promotions on a new platform.

“I’ve gained a lot of new followers. I have had plenty of messages across all my social media asking when my next fight is, so it’s good to know the interest levels are high. Also, I would like to say a massive thank you to Frank and George Warren, as well as DAZN, for the huge opportunity.”

Both Majid and Murphy had been aware of each other for some time prior to their bout, having been in and around the same gyms but never sparred. Between them, they sold roughly 2,000 tickets for the event, with Majid selling 1,200 alone – the most out of all the boxers on the card.

Majid and his team now look to map out the next steps in his career and to continue to build on his recent momentum.

“I should have some announcements coming, some exciting news for sure. Look, I’ve had two fights already in 2025 and we’re only just hitting June, so I’m in a good place.

“Those two fights have put me in a good position, in good stead and I’m ready to step up a level now, God willing. I believe it’s time to start aiming at picking up my first titles in the coming 12 months.

“As I’ve mentioned before it’s been a difficult 18 months or so for me with my Mum’s health taking a hit and it really put into perspective what truly matters in life. Christies (hospital) really looked after my Mum when she was unwell and once she’d recovered, I went down and spoke to them and said I’d like to make a donation. They even attended on fight night to support me. I was more than happy to give back after my fight and donated my ticket commission to them.

“It’s very important to me to keep my word. I believe my word is my bond and I try to follow through on everything I commit to. This whole situation has been a wake-up call in its own unique way and helped me to really focus on what I want to achieve in my career and my family are fully behind me.”

Currently trained by former super-lightweight and welterweight world champion Buddy McGirt, Majid believes their partnership is only going from strength to strength.

“Buddy is a big name in the sport and a great personality, as we all know. He has a hell of a lot of boxing knowledge too, but the thing that sticks out to me the most is that he protects his fighters. To me that is the most important thing, more than anything.

“The way he treats Dillian, Callum, Kovalev, I’ve seen it first hand and it’s a privilege for me to be around those guys, he genuinely cares about his guys and that isn’t something you can buy or teach someone, he’s just a genuinely good guy.

“I like to go one hundred miles per hour all the time and he’s always telling me I can’t do that. When he speaks, I listen. Whatever he asks me to do, I make sure I give my all and carry out everything to the best of my ability.

“It’s been just over two years since we started working together and I feel like we’re really getting into our stride now and the activity certainly helps.”
