Frankie Gavin, not Amir Khan, next for Kell Brook

Brook-Gavin IBF title fight added to mammoth O2 bill, writes John Dennen

Frankie Gavin, not Amir Khan, next for Kell Brook

KELL BROOK defended his IBF welterweight as recently as March 28 but will put it on the line as soon as May 30 when he takes on Frankie Gavin.

After Brook demolished Jo Jo Dan in Sheffield he called for a fight with Amir Khan. That won’t happen this summer and Brook has found another opponent from the UK in Gavin, an elite amateur World champion, who has won British and Commonwealth titles as a professional but lost a European title fight to Leonard Bundu. Gavin was going to fight Chris van Heerden in Birmingham but will now not appear on that May 9 bill.

The all British clash is part of a mammoth bill at the O2 in London that will feature two other world title fights, Kevin Mitchell’s tilt at WBC lightweight champion Jorge Linares and Lee Selby challenging IBF featherweight titlist Evgeny Gradovich.

London 2012 Olympic gold medallist Anthony Joshua’s clash with Kevin Johnson has be rescheduled for this bill and there are two intriguing British title clashes as John Ryder meets Nick Blackwell for the middleweight crown and at lightweight Scott Cardle boxes Craig Evans.

Plus Dave Ryan is set to make a Commonwealth light-welterweight title defence against John Wayne Hibbert.
