Katie Taylor has named her top five fighters in women’s boxing as she approaches her last dance at Croke Park, Dublin, on September 5.

The 40-year-old has crafted an illustrious career and is now bidding to become a three-time undisputed champion, taking on Flora Pili for all four major super-lightweight titles.

This follows the culmination of her iconic trilogy with Amanda Serrano, with the Irish phenom remaining unbeaten against her Puerto Rican rival in July 2025.

But despite sharing 30 rounds of ferocious action with her fellow all-time great, Taylor did not mention Serrano in her top five list of active female fighters.

Perhaps this is because the 37-year-old is closing in on retirement but, even so, most would argue that Serrano remains one of the leading operators in women’s boxing.

While having become a seven-division world champion, she is now attempting to further cement her greatness by trumping Christy Martin’s record (32) for the most knockouts in women’s boxing history.

Taylor, however, has named Mikaela Mayer, Alycia Baumgardner, Ellie Scotney, Gabriela Fundora and Claressa Shields as her top five current female fighters.

While excluding herself, too, she offered her list – in ascending order – with no mention of Serrano during a pound-for-pound discussion with DAZN.

Many would agree, though, that Shields, a three-weight undisputed champion, is at the very top, or should at least be mentioned in the same breath as Taylor.

The only factor going against Shields, it seems, is her overall level of opposition, as evidenced by the fact that she is heavily favoured to defeat Kaye Scott this weekend.
