Katie Taylor distances herself from Chantelle Cameron trilogy talks

KATIE Taylor has poked fun at super-lightweight rival Chantelle Cameron, questioning whether the WBC interim champion is deserving of a potential trilogy showdown.

The 39-year-old ended another rivalry, this one against Amanda Serrano, after claiming a majority decision victory in the small hours of this morning.

In doing so, the undisputed queen widened their score to 3-0 in her favour, creating an even more compelling argument that she is the greatest female boxer of all time.

Among those fighting on her undercard, meanwhile, was Cameron, 21-1 (8 KOs), who secured a comprehensive points victory against Jessica Camara at Madison Square Garden, New York.

Prior to that, the 34-year-old had amassed two equally comfortable wins which, in turn, saw her emerge as the leading contender at 140lbs.

But while she occupies a strong position, it would appear that Cameron nonetheless remains a fair distance away from her possible third encounter with Taylor, 25-1 (6 KOs).

The pair squared off in 2023, back when Cameron pulled off a monumental upset after edging a majority decision – which, in truth, did little to reflect the dominant nature of her performance – on away soil.

In their immediate rematch, though, it was Taylor who emerged victorious, reclaiming her titles while, more importantly, avenging the only blemish on her professional record.

Yet despite the score remaining level, it is only now – following 20 rounds, ten of which brutal, with Serrano – that Taylor has become available for a rubber match.

But as the future of her illustrious career hangs in the balance, the Olympic champion has equally cast an element of doubt on another fight with Cameron.

“I think Chantelle has to see if she can sell out a 1,000-seater arena first,” Taylor said at her post-fight press conference, suggesting that her rival is not a big enough draw.

“I don’t think she could sell out any stadium at all. I think I’ve made her more money than she really deserves to be quite honest.”
