Agit Kabayel could be about to land an opportunity to add another world title to his collection.
The German star has been a slow-burner in the heavyweight division, having first come to prominence back in 2017 when he retained his European heavyweight title against Derek Chisora.
After several years treading water, he finally kicked on over the last 18 months with a number of standout wins, claiming stoppage victories over Arslanbek Makhmudov, Frank Sanchez and Zhilei Zhang, the latter of those earning him the WBC interim title.
After heavyweight king Oleksandr Usyk vacated his belts last month, Kabayel was elevated to full champion, with the unbeaten star now looking to compete in just his second fight since February 2025.
His last outing came back in January when he dispatched of Damian Knyba inside three rounds, but a unification battle could now be on the horizion for Kabayel, after The Ring reported that there is talk of a showdown with WBA champion Murat Gassiev.
“A heavyweight unification bout between WBC champ Agit Kabayel and WBA champ Murat Gassiev is being explored for later this year, Kabayel’s promoter, Spencer Brown told The Ring’s @MikeCoppinger.”
Gassiev is another who has benefitted from Usyk’s decision to relinquish the belts, after initially winning the WBA (Regular) title in December with a stoppage win over Kubrat Pulev.
He now finds himself in sole possession of the full WBA crown, making a defence of that belt with a sixth round stoppage over Peter Kadiru in July, and a win over Kabayel would see him become a two-weight unified world champion after his success at cruiserweight.
